About us

Vox Cordis was formed in 1998 by a group of friends who wanted to continue singing after university. In the twenty years since then, it has gone from strength to strength, taking on a wide-ranging repertoire from the great polyphonists of the sixteenth century to modern and contemporary classics.

The choir gives regular performances across London and the United Kingdom. Venues have ranged from No. 10 Downing Street and Wilton’s Music Hall, through Ampleforth College and Norwich Cathedral, to Westminster Abbey, St Martin in the Fields and the Royal Festival Hall. Highlights include performances of Haydn’s Nelson Mass in Bath Abbey, Bach’s St John Passion at Douai Abbey, Handel’s Messiah at St Paul’s Knightsbridge, and Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Mozart’s Vespers and Requiem at Cadogan Hall (all under their regular conductor Charlie Grace), along with Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C Minor with the Kensington Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican, and Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts at St Giles in the Fields.

They have also enjoyed a close association with the Orchestra of St Paul’s (now Covent Garden Sinfonia) under their conductor Ben Palmer. This collaboration has allowed them to perform core choral repertoire, such as Bach’s Mass in B Minor, the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9
and Haydn’s Creation, in addition to more contemporary pieces such as Tippett’s Child of Our Time.

The choir has developed a particular reputation for working with charities, including giving annual Christmas carol services for the Charlie Waller Trust and RNLI, as well as Macmillan Cancer Relief and SAVE.
